What Is The Theme Of The Movie Chef By John Favreau

Decent Essays
The food themed movie that I chose to watch was Chef, directed by Jon Favreau. This film is about a chef who works in a restaurant, but then decides to start his own food truck. Even though this film was made for entertainment, there are many things one can learn from it. Regarding food specifically, this movie has taught me about Cuban food. When Carl, the chef in the movie, starts his food truck, he decides to make Cuban food. He shows his son, who is interested in his father’s cooking, how to make a Cuban sandwich and the passion that goes into each one. Another concept that I learned was the importance of hard work and perseverance. The action that prompted Carl to start his own food truck was when a food critic completely rips apart his

First off let’s start off with pathos also known as the emotional side of persuasion. In the first moments of the film the audience saw picture of his mom, and he said that as a kid his mom always cooked for them and they rarely ever got fast food unless it was a very special occasion. He also used pathos by getting a lot of different points of view on the matter from different citizens, lawmakers, and health professionals. Most agreed that you should control yourself and that the fast food corporations aren’t to blame for people not making the right choices for their health. Throughout the diet he admitted that he felt very sick and sometimes even depressed.…

Ever wonder who is cooking the food in the kitchens of America’s favorite restaurants? Anthony Bourdain answered this question in his article titled “Who Cooks?” Anthony Bourdain is a chef, writer and has been featured on some reality television shows. Standout Moment Analysis

There are many standout moments that I would like to mention, but first I would like to say that I am very impressed with this film, I always have been wondering all these things and I like the fact that we are learning about them in this class. The first standout moment for me was when the man and his family lost their farm. It called my attention because my family and some families from this area had to go through this same situation a few years ago. Second standout moment: the pilots’ salaries from 16,000 to 22,000 yearly! That’s ridiculous, some of them had to ask for food stamps, some of them have a second job, that remind me a time when a met a paramedic working at a warehouse, I asked him why he was working there, and he told me that he was getting pay more there for opening boxes than saving lives and even though he loved to be a paramedic he needed the money.…

For example, it shows the struggle Richard Abernathy went through as a child. In the story it states, “Richard was struggling to repair a machine and had accidentally broken it beyond repair. The cotton mill owner was so frustrated with Richard that he tightened a heavy weight around Richard's neck and forced him to walk around the mill for an hour…. This happened so often that Richard had developed neck problems by the age of ten” (paragraph 3 ). This shows that when he did something wrong it would be setting an example for the other children so that the children wouldn’t make the same mistake.…

The epic montage sequence mentioned earlier: where it visually shows the evolution of Carl Fredrickson from a young boy to an old widower. This is also a crucial sequence, in terms of character alignment as it establishes pathos and empathy with lightning speed that continually stays bubbling not only around Carl’s head, but also in the audience’s memory for the rest of the film. The point of this montage sequence is not only to let the audience share the grief of the grumpy old widower, Carl Fredrickson, but also to explain…
