The Glass Castle is an astounding and indigence based memoir written by Jeannette Walls with little demands for a high level of vocabulary and understanding, giving chances to scrutinize. It’s worth a read. Personally, I would recommend it because of Walls upbringing with destitute. It taught me that no matter where you were brought up and how horrible financial and emotional positions are, courage and determination can only overcome the conditions. The book contained tragic events and displayed the brutal reality one can face. Walls used immense description. Her writing style was not difficult to read. The atrocious reality, however, can be difficult for sensitive and emotional readers because Walls described many horrendous incidents and scenes. Otherwise, I would recommend young adults or adults to give it a read.

Throughout the story, Rex Walls often asked his children if “(he) ever let them down,” hoping for the answer to be no. He asked Brian and “me and then turned and walked away. In a voice so low that Dad didn't hear him, Brian said, 'Yes" (Walls 78) showing that after all his children feel he isn’t capable of keeping them intact. It had a powerful meaning. No matter how much you think your children are jovial, sacrifices need to be made. He didn’t compromise his alcoholism. Jane’s father constantly failed at his job and path of his career. This quote or scene signifies the whole book, in my opinion. The Glass Castle is about a family struggling to survive, importantly, a father trying to keep his family united. It’s powerful in the sense of relations and harsh circumstances. A father of three fails in the eyes of his children, the only thing he needed in order to survive.
