Love is the main topic in the story “The Future Of Us” and most of the problems revolve around the protagonist, Emma Nelson, who ultimately doesn’t believe in true love. She is dealing with the fallout with her best friend, Josh, coupled with her complicated feelings towards him and her future husbands she already dislikes. The main relationship is, between Emma and Josh as they used to be best friends until Josh told Emma about his feelings towards her. Emma expresses, “He stepped close like he was about to kiss me. “No,” I said, “You’re… Josh,”” (Asher & Mackler, 71). Emma knew how much that hurt him and things got awkward between them. But when the two discover Facebook they begin to reconnect. The readers follow Emma’s conflicted feelings
