2. Jeff was injured and confine to his apartment with a cast on. While Mr. Thorwald during the story he each time before bed and once early in the morning he would take stiff shots of liquor. Also two to three times he would strike a match while probably lying on the sofa or standing at the rear of the window, he stood at the window often sweeping his eyes from left to right. At one point he kept dipping low the rising as if he was doing an exercise, he restlessly roamed from room to room and at time he sweep his hand across his head. As for Sam, he was superstitious by the way he mentioned the cricket signified death, also anytime Jeff would ask something of him and or chat he always walked off mumbling under his breathe.

In order to capture a highly suspenseful feeling of the story “It Had to Be Murder” I would have made this story a tragedy, causing Mr. Thorwald to suffer for what he has done before he died. Therefore, Hal Jefferies would need to carry out a stronger role into Mr. Thorwald life, instead of being a throw to the chair. They would naturally be friends but the crime scene would be in renovated pawn shop. Jeff would then remain the noble man. Also the adultery would stay the same but, the mistress behind the scene would be planting evidence that Sam would be the expected killer, meaning he would be at Mr. Thorwald service instead. The police would not play an important role they would ignore all the accusation that Jeff had said because he would have caused Boynoe to get in a huge mess before. Hence Jeff wouldn’t always be right about his assumptions anymore. Yet Jeff would be sending Mr. Thorwald on a goose chase causing him to suffer before revealing the truth and killing
