What Is The Theme Of Death In The Poem Because I Could Not Stop For Death

Throughout literature, the topic of death and is a common theme often widely addressed and analyzed across many different forms of literary works. This can especially be seen between Emily Dickinson’s poem, “Because I could not stop for Death” (1890) and The Band Perry’s song, “If I Die Young” both works portray a woman experiencing the journey of death and the journey of transitioning into the afterlife, however with contrasting tones of the acceptance of death. Dickinson’s poem portrays an older woman who receives death in a calm, yet distant matter of fact view towards death compared to The Band Perry’s song where the young woman expresses a peace for her shortened life. Overall, throughout both works an important topic shared between Emily Dickinson’s poem “Because I could not stop for Death” And the Band Perry’s song “If I Die Young” is mortality and what comes after death. Although these works convey contrasting viewpoints on death, through their use of imagery and figurative language, both works establish similar tones on the acceptance of death.
