I am Malala, is a documentary of a young girl, the lifestyle she lived and of the Taliban coming in and drastically changing the way of life for people in Pakistan. Women of Pakistan have never had as many rights as men. It was looked down on, but was not illegal, for girls to go to school. Malala lived in northwest Pakistan, a place, called Swat Valley. Her father was a teacher and had started the school that Malala attended. She loved going to school and she had a passion for learning. Malala spoke out for the rights of girls, to receive an education. She was a good speaker, and even got a school named after her. When the Taliban came in and started making things hard for girls to go to school, Malala refused to stop going. She continued to speak out. Then the death threats started. Everyone at first thought, that not even the Taliban would come after a little girl, but in 2012, when Malala was fifteen, members of the Taliban, tracked her down and shot her in the head to kill her. At the age of sixteen Malala addressed the UN headquarters in New York. Going from a young girl in Pakistan to speaking in the US for free education. Malala has become a global symbol of peaceful protest. She has proven that one little girl can make a global impact. Malala’s purpose of the book, “I am Malala” is, “to raise my voice on behalf of girls around the world who are being denied the right to go to school and realize their potential” (p.327). Malala wants girls everywhere to get an education and to make a change, and has shown that this is possible, through her
