Dialogue makes the characters seem real to the reader by revealing firsthand their thoughts, responses, and emotional states” (2014). Both plays have a certain dialogue that perfectly describes the situation as to which the character are in. In Los Vendidos, we see how the Honest Sancho is trying to make a living in something that is clearly rightful in many ways. The dialogue between the Secretary and the Sancho reveals that although she has a history of Chicano heritage by her last name she is not very fond of the people or culture of being a Chicano. The time is based off a time when Mexicans were not being treating equal and the play represented that. The social aspects in Freakish Times do not really exist. Pretty much the characters are just doing whatever they can to survive. That might even include eating the undead and living in caves. The social aspect in Los Vendidos is one that is focused on racism and how a white major is using a Mexican to get more votes. Although the settings are very different in both of these plays, the author had to use the setting to really have the play come together.
