In chapter one, the narrator tells the reader about when her brother Jem broke his arm and how they are able to reflect and talk about it as the years go by. They argue about how his accident began to be and the narrator says it all began when a general’s actions led to their ancestor Simon Finch settling in the place that would become the location of his homestead where the males of the finch family would live on until the twentieth century. The narrator tells the readers about Simon Finch and his legacy then the two kids asks their father Atticus who helps them resolve their argument by saying they were both right. The narrator then gives the reader information about Atticus. He and his brother were the first males to leave Finch's landing
