Abigail is known to keep her own skin safe and because of this she starts accusing people who supposedly are involved with the devil. She is known as the victim who has been wrongly used by the devil, shedding light to the matter. Before her reputation of a witch accuser was known in town, they considered Williams as a skeptical puritan who had a rumored romantical connection with John Proctor “Abigail, is there any other cause than you have told me, for Goody Proctor dischargin‘ you?” (Miller. I. 2). The past connections and doubts formed about Williams lead her to protect herself in order to secure and reassure the town she is a pure Puritan who loves God, who will not give in to evil. Abigail Williams regards her reputation a priority, due to this she accuses people she finds bothersome of witchcraft for her protection and convenience. Using her involvement with John Proctor as an excuse towards her inner self is enough for her to outwardly show satisfaction of innocent people wrongly accused.She does not regard truth or compassion as a character that should be held in response to a good reputation. Warren is caught in her lie by Proctor and she agrees in telling the truth, that Williams and the girls accusations are false. She agrees because she wants to remain righteous and faithful to Puritan rules but the wrongful allegations have reached a point of no return that force Warren to consider truth versus reputation. Warren is conflicted in doing the right thing because if she confesses her credibility and reputation will be challenged by Williams and the girls “ I cannot.They‘ll turn on me” (Miller II. 31). She risks her reputation momentarily by telling the truth but quickly changes her mind once she sees that for her to save her own skin she has to forsake John, therefore forsaking the truth. Warren finds her reputation of utmost importance as she involves herself in unfairly deciding people’s futures through false testimonies, unwilling to sacrifice her image in order to save others. She chooses protecting her reputation instead of being a honest Puritan. Simarlily to Abigail Williams, they would betray their own family and bend their words to take advantage of the situation in order to save themselves and have a suitable reputation. Although Warren is conscious of her bad decisions, both are willing to put on a show for their own
