This are serval cognitive dissonance theory discussed throughout chapter five. In the dollar experiment Festinger proved people who got paid a dollar showed more effort in lying compared to the people who got paid twenty dollars who didn’t show effort in lying. Marion Keech an ordinary housewife received a letter stating the world would end on December 21, 1954 on midnight due to a flood. Festinger wanted to study what would happen when December 21 came around and how would people react. Previously after Keech received the news many of the society started to worry and sold their house as well as quit their jobs.
