In September of 1939, the Nazi soldiers attacked Poland. In the capital, Warsaw, over 400,000 were cramped into a square mile ghetto. By November of 1940 the Warsaw Ghetto was closed off by guards, barbed wire, and brick walls. The German soldiers now controlled all of the food entering the walls. There were 750 Jews armed with a range of different hand weapons and they were outmatched to the well trained Nazis. On day one of the ghetto uprising, the Jews forced the Germans to retreat outside of the ghetto, reporting 12 Nazi casualties. On day three of the ghetto uprising, the Jews were forced out of hiding and forced into a rumble killing many important rebels in the uprising. The uprising went back and forth for almost a month until the Germans were ordered to destroy the Great Synagogue on May 8th which symbolized a German victory. The ghetto was put to ruins while capturing 56,065 Jews and killing almost 7,000.
