What Is The Role Of Government In Lord Of The Flies

In the novel lord of the flies a group of adolescent were stranded on an island without adults. Adults are not present on the island until the end meanwhile the kids try to take on adult roles by building a social structure on the island. In the story, the kids try to establish social order, they take on different roles and they try to manage the conflict when things go wrong because there not experienced enough with the roles they are given. In the novel lord of the flies the role of government is shown through the social order that the teenagers tried to establish on the island. There is evidence of this in the beginning when they choose a leader. Ralph is the one who is using the conch to call for a meeting showing he’s in control. Even though Ralph has taken on the role of becoming the leader the other boys are just going along with it. As you can see, the other boys choose Ralph because he was creative enough to use a conch shell to call the boy together for a meeting but he hadn’t yet shown any leadership qualities. …show more content…
The author shows this by the different roles that the kids take on. For example Jack becomes the food hunter while piggy is the brains of the operation. The little kids don’t assume important role of leadership but instead, the little kids play without a purpose in simple ways. Even though all the boys took on a role of some kind, they really didn’t have the skills to be successful. That’s while the fire they wanted to use to signal for help went out after burning out of control.
