Fences have different functions on a farm. They are used to mark the property boundaries, to contain stock, to protect water sources from damage from stock, to provide privacy for the home.
Some are designed to protect farm animals from predators such as foxes, dogs or keep out pests such as rats or rabbits.
The choice of fencing built around a property depends on many factors, such as the type, size and number of animals kept on the farm.
A wire mesh or commonly called chicken wire is used to prevent small animals from entering or leaving a designated area, used mainly to keep small birds in and rats and sparrows out. It can be used for young farm animals like lambs or large animals of quiet nature.
