The accuracy of this assessment is dependent on race Fass, T. L., Heilbrun, K., DeMatteo, D., & Fretz, R. (2008). It may help to use different risk assessments for different races and populations to increase the accuracy. Also if parole and probation officers use this data it may increase the supervision of certain offenders. The heightened supervision may itself increase recidivism rate. It is important to note the limitation of this study. This was a short 12 month period of post release supervision. There are no results on anything past that. Also generalizability to other populations might be a issue. This was used on mostly urban blacks, whites, and hispanic males. Women in the criminal justice system also need their risks assessed. In the current study the LSI-R was used on female offender 's Smith, P., Cullen, F. T., & Latessa, E. J. (2009). This study used 14,737offenders in a meta analysis. The results for female offenders relationship of predicting recidivism was similar to males Smith, P., Cullen, F. T., & Latessa, E. J. (2009). The impact of this is that a correctional agency can use this tool for both males and females.
