What Is The Ripple Effect

Decent Essays
I like the fact that you used the ripple effect to describe how he called out the popular kids for being jerks. I agree with you that they did retaliate in the wrong way and that they did stoop to his level. It was awesome to see that you were on the same page with what to do with a difficult group member. They definitely may not even notice what they're doing is unhelpful so being able to approach them and just let them know what their actions are. I never thought of one person approaching the person instead of everyone to avoiding the feeling of being attacked, that was a good idea.

“Remember The Titans” questions (Gerry) 1. I feel like what happened to Petey, Sunshine and the others was not the right choice for the person turning them down. Why would it matter who you are with or what you look like/race to get service at a restaurant. I think that everyone should get a fair share at being served at a restaurant, at the end of the day we are still people and have feelings therefore others should respect that. Also Petey had been to the restaurant before so why would they refuse to serve them and even kick them out.…

Let’s take this story back to the start of freshman year, not too long ago, but feels long enough.…

Being Mexican American I believed I had a bit of an unfair advantage taking this course. I was looking forward to learning more about my culture and myself but at the back of my mind I believed I would already know some of the material. I am very happy to say that I have learned a lot more than I expected. I have learned a lot about Hispanic cultures other than mine, politics, and economics, and many other topics but off all the things we covered in class the three that most stuck out to me were the early history of Latinos in the US, learning about privilege, and educational achievement of Latinos.…

All my life, I’ve been aware of the people around me and considered what I could do to make their lives more fortunate. With this interest in mind, I joined the Anti-Bulling Club (ABC) at my school in the 6th grade, eventually becoming ABC president in the 10th grade. As president, my biggest priority was to make my school a place where students were welcomed to engage in discussion unafraid of what might be said; I tried accomplishing this goal by getting volunteers to hold the doors and greet peers to school each morning. Through creating this inviting atmosphere, students participated in more constructive conversation, leading to provoking questions that even teachers could not answer. When I transitioned to community college life in the…

Now a days, everyone has their own personal device such as an iPhone or a smartphone in general. Older generational people would say that it is bad, but people our age would say it is great. Since we have this great technology it is sometimes good and other times bad. For instance, someone could go on twitter right now and say something completely rude to someone and it could make that person get really sad or mad. According to Rothwell, “Flaming is a cyber-term for an abusive, attacking written message between Internet users...”…

“Quadre” I’ve always loved children, and I am under the impression that the feeling is mutual, especially in my work in the church nursery, mentor programs, summer camps, and a volunteer trip to an African orphanage this summer. I like kids, particularly younger ones, because they are straight-forward; unconcerned with things like status, appearance, and reality; and have the best senses of humor by accident. Quadre, a young boy I met while volunteering at a school, was no exception to those qualities, and he was especially unique for a few more. He had a knack for getting into trouble and was clearly the class clown, but unlike his peers, Quadre did not like me. Despite my best efforts to show him love and befriend him, he wasn’t having it.…

“Rowing the Bus” by Paul Logan is about when Paul was a young boy in elementary school who got bullied, he was an easy target because he had no father, was smaller than others, and his mother couldn’t afford new clothes, so he wore hand-me-downs donated by local churches. The older kids made him sit in the isle of the bus with all the trash and nasty chewed up gum, it was called rowing the bus the other kids would make you simulate the motion of rowing while they all laughed and shouted “row, row, row the bus”.
