• To begin with, the author writes in Pi’s point of view. This helps the reader have a simulation of Pi’s adventures. All of Pi’s actions make the reader feel as if they are in Pi’s shoes.
• All throughout the first part of the novel the author utilizes a dull tone. He utilizes this tone to show and discuss when Pi was a kid. "Pi was a tranquil and exceptional youngster" (pg16). This has impact on the story in light of the fact that if the tone begins truly dull and exhausting there is not much to the story.
• Throughout the second part of the novel, the author shifts to a more action packed tone when the Tsimsum starts to sink and before Pi learns to tame the tiger and become its friend. "As the boat suddenly started to sink everything suddenly became a chaos". This leads up to the conflict in the story.
