From the yogic point of view, Samana relates to Sushumna Nadi, Pingala Nadi to Prana, Ida Nadi to Apana, the ascension of Kundalini to Udana. Udana is contained and flows in one Nadi – Sushumna.

As the shadow of man (is inseparable from the body), (in the same way) this prana is inseparable from the Self or consciousness. In this body it enters through the mind. Prana is the life force, a force in constant motion, a vibration. It is the energy inherent in everything. Matter is gross form of energy. All the evolutes of Samkhyan philosophy are expressions of prana or energy. This energy is manifested most distinctly in matter at the Muladhara chakra and most unmanifested at the Ajna Chakra. Prana is described as the Sun. It sustains life in all directions: the prana (giver of life) to all subjects rises – this is the sun. Without prana there is no animation, no time, no seasons, no day or night, no life and no creation. In every object, animate or inanimate, there is life – energy
