The assassination of Lincoln was a tragic moment in United States history. The hate for him came from the Civil War. He had reunited the North and the South. With Lincoln ending slavery he was hated by many of the southerners who had had slaves at the time. Some things that are still not clear today are the conspiracy theory and the reason for it.

He then leaped down onto the stage and shouted “Sic Semper Tyrannis”. A twenty-three year old doctor named Charles Leale who was in the audience came to help the president. Booth had managed to escape the theater with a broken leg. He made it out of Washington D.C. and into Virginia without being caught. When the Surgeon General arrived he said that Lincoln would not survive the night. On April 21st his body was boarded on a train for his burial in Springfield, IL.
