The Radicalization of Youth and Affiliation with Isis Radicalization is the process by which individuals are introduced to an overtly ideological message and belief system that encourages a shift in mainstream beliefs to extreme views (PNSCI 2011). Radicalization has been around for ages take for instance in the Bible we read instances were prophets are killed for believing in Jesus. Radical groups such as Isis and Al Qaeda have made it their purgative to appeal to westerners and instill in them a radical mindset that targets Western governments such as the U.S. In recent years after 9/11 radical groups have proliferated into full blow organizations with vast resources and funding. Unfortunately the people who are falling victims to theses terroristic organizations are our youth. Today youth find radical groups such as Isis appealing because of lack of ideals/values in individuals (obscure moral compass), the need for acceptance, and the need for adventure. Due to the proliferating amount of Internet access-finding ties to radical groups has increased. We now are dealing with a dilemma of our youth being reached via the Internet. How can we stop this? Well for one we can limit computer time to your youth and monitor what they are doing online. Its quite scary the lengths that these kids are willing to go for something they think they believe in. Many are being promised freedom but when they arrive they are enslaved and forced to recruit others. What can we do to stop it? Well the place that we can start is at home. We need to educate our children from an early age and instill in them moral obligations to doing what is right without the need for violence. We should also being an outreach program for kids that are at risk for radicalism and give them a safe place were they feel accepted.
