What Is The Purpose Of Students To Clean School?

“The role of schooling was to equip individuals with the skills necessary to participate in the social life of their community and to change the nature of the social order as needed or desired.” - George Count, American educational philosopher. Students cleaning up the school is another component of the school’s purpose to prepare the students to enter the community with the utmost respect. It teaches the students to become a member of society and take responsibility for themselves. Participating in this proposal should be a civil responsibility since it is the school that grants us education, we shouldn’t take it for granted and make a mess of the place. In addition, we gain a lot of benefits including life lessons that could never be taught …show more content…
However, the idea of students to clean the school has been adapted by some schools in the United States such as the Armadillo Technical Institute in Oregon and Brentwood Academy outside Nashville, Tenn. The Brentwood academy’s director of communications, Susan Shafer considers “clean-up” an additional component of school’s mission of educating the whole person and a preparation for life. Shafer’s proposal supports the idea that the “clean-up” is an valuable lesson that should be taught in schools. Kim De Costa, executive director of the Armadillo Technical institute, had a system that students clean, sweep, mop, and take out the trash after lunch for 30 minutes, sometimes they even clean up the bathroom. De Costa said it 's easy to encourage students to respect their environment when they 're the ones responsible for preserving it. This statement suggests that the student see the school itself as their workplace and it’s their responsibility to clean it. In addition to Shafer and De Costa’s support, parents of these schools have shown overwhelming support according to an article in nprED, “Without Janitors, Students Are In Charge Of Keeping School Shipshape”.These controversies might be true but we can adapt and adjust like the Armadillo Technical institute and Brentwood academy as they grasp the meaning of students cleaning up the school. The school should seen by every student as their education center and where they’ll learn to enter society therefore it should be obligated for students to clean up the

Countless students and teachers go to school every day and work very hard to meet what is asked of each of them. Teachers work more than 40 hours a week, especially when there are events going on throughout the school year. Students go to class to earn an “A,” not to learn what the teacher is teaching the class due to the fact that students were taught to contently earn a letter grade in that class. However, teachers are not at fault either because the school board and administrators give the teachers a timeline of all the curriculum the students must learn to a certain point in time of each marking period. In “Against School” by John Taylor Gatto, he describes how numerous students and teachers go to school and they are just dullness is so…

Policies and procedures are also in place to support staff in managing difficult situations such a violent or threatening behaviour. It is adamant that staff familiarise themselves with all policies and procedures and the school must make sure these are all easy to find and accessible to all staff at all times.…

People these days think that students are not learning enough in school. The school thinks it is a good idea to shorten vacation time and go to school all year round with longer breaks. On the other hand, other people think that it is a bad idea to do this because students usually learn things out of school during summer break. The school year should not be lengthened because it stresses adolescents out, it will make them feel pressured, and it does not give them an opportunity to expand their horizons. Students need a break from school after their school year.…

In “Against School,” John Gatto argues that the main purpose of public schools and the educational system in general is to produce a “manageable” populace. Gatto argues that the current educational system does this by slowly acclimating students into certain habits, confirming students to certain rules, and implementing a certain mindset into students that makes them respond well to authority. All of these things that Gatto argues adds up to make a system for training a complaint workforce. Firstly, schools achieve what Gatto states their purpose is by acclimating students to how factories are organized and what working in a factory is like. Secondary, schools also accomplish Gattos argument by restricting the class choices of students and…

Perhaps the single, most common answer to the question of the purpose of school is that it is to shape young minds in preparing them for the future. For some, school is where they go learn skills and techniques useful in the work world. For others, they are just forced to go to school, to be hassled with the burdens of overwhelming assignments, which deprive them of their ever so fulfilling social lives and other salient priorities. However, for the students in Crenshaw High School, school was a sanctuary, a safe haven; the only place where they felt accepted, worthy and optimistic. School was their only outlet where they could openly express themselves, especially in their English classes.…
