Satire In High Schools Essay

High school students all go through the same problem: finding themselves. According to most, getting involved with clubs, having a social life, and taking the recommended AP courses would essentially make the students fit the standard of what a highschool student needs to be. But is it really necessary to go through the trouble? Would doing all of these things really help the students find themselves?
The purpose of our satire is to show how the typical highschool standard of joining clubs, being active socially, and taking a bunch of AP classes is ridiculous because everyone’s different. There should be no set example of how a student should live his/her life. Through our satire, we show how a foreigner tries his best to fit in with the rest

Both videos state “But obviously, nothing ever works out for Kalton.” This is an understatement because the actual meaning is Kalton’s life sucks. It has irony because nothing ever goes accordingly for Kalton. It also parodizes the club Key Club by using Lock club.Inflation is used because Kalton’s life sucks in reality, but in the story, it sucks even more. There’s an obvious exaggeration as Kalton’s bad luck is exaggerated. Lastly, there’s diminution because the amount of significance clubs and love life actually has on Kalton is quite low. In the Horatian version, there’s also surprise because the audience expected Kalton to die, but he came back to life. In the Juvenalian version, there’s invective as the video starts off with Kalton’s classmates as they insult Kalton for being a “fob,” an abbreviation for “fresh off the boat” which is a derogatory term that refers to recent immigrants. We decided to use these devices because they all are able to emphasize how much Kalton’s life sucks. The surprise helps the Horatian version with adding a twist to the ending, making it light. The Juvenalian versions has invective in order to make the video more

In his book titled “The Future of Life”, Edward O. Wilson effectively utilizes satire to illustrate the unproductive nature of an Environmentalist versus People-First debate. By lacking a complete arsenal of constructively, statistically, and logically correct arguments, both point of views were explained with the use of overly dramatic irony, extreme real life examples, and outlandishly childish name-calling. Wilson is able to depict a ludicrous display of an utmost unconstructive argument that ultimately leads to nothing except for the undermining of both parties. One of the highlighting uses of satire that Wilson was able to incorporate, was the manner in which both sides attempted to weaken the opposition with the use of unproductive name-calling. We witness this immature behavior in that the People-First would refer to the…

Laura Mishkin’s “The Problem with Being Hip”, an article published in The Daily, claims that in society people want so badly to be above mainstream culture that they’re isolating themselves and becoming their “image”. Mishkin lists numerous experiences she’s had with the youth that’ve been absorbed into the ironic subculture, and emphasizes the irony of how being ironic “is fitting in by proving you’re not trying to”. Furthermore, Mishkin analyzes how the at the root of this trend is insecurity, that being a “byproduct” of the social media makes people feel accepted but in reality, Mishkin asses, “alienates” those who don’t live ironically from those that do. Altogether, Mishkin drives her point home when she showcases how she too falls prey…

Occasionally I look back on my high school experience and realize I never did a keg stand at a party, I never skipped class to get stoned, and I also never got the guy I had a crush on for three years. Instead, I was studying for that AP government exam, standing in front of my fellow science club members talking about how we can restore our local creek, or working on hitting fastballs for softball. When I catch myself feeling as though I missed out on stereotypical high school or even college experiences I watch a movie not just any movie but a teen comedy. My ideal teen comedy has a group of friends who are about to graduate high school or already have that feel like they missed out on the clique high school experience, in order to gain some…

People that go rape other people are the lowest kind of low. There is absolutely no reason no excuse for anyone to sexually abuse another human none what so ever it's pathetic disgusting selfish and completely wrong. People don't actually realize what an impact being raped has on you till it happens just imagine how you think it is and times it by about 50. The horrible thing is it happens every single day to so many people it's disgusting. They think it's their fault because they "didn't fight back" or they "were wearing too low of a shirt or too short of a skirt" when that's not the case at all it's never the victims fault if you can't go out and see girls wearing "provocative" clothes with out sexually abusing them or slut shaming them just…

Immigration comes to mind when reflecting on the readings. I guess because immigration is the main topic for this current administration. Immigrants and slaves were brought to this country by no choice of their own and have lived in America since it was stolen from the natives. They help to build this country yet there is much fear when it comes to immigrants entering this country today. Now I’m proud to be an American and I wouldn’t trade this country for anything else.…

I chose the topic of treating schools as if they were prison because I think people do not care about their education anymore. I learned that the goal of satire is to point out the flaws of people or the society with some humor. The most difficult thing about the satire story was pointing out the disadvantage and making it into an advantage. I think I excelled in making an outrageous proposal. I think my finished product was some of my best work because I actually had interest in what I was writing so I put more effort toward…

There are three kinds of people in high school. There are the kids that are always in a relationship and always talking to someone, then there’s the kids that never are in a relationships and are always partying or out with their friends. Then, there’s the kids that are neither of those, they do their own thing and enjoy being at the comfort of their home every weekend. Although these are three extremes of high school, people tend to get put into these three categories. These labels and standards tend to affect students and their high school experience dramatically.…

Humor is an integral part of our everyday lives providing us with laughter, enjoyment, relaxation and a sense of relief. Today, the concepts of humor and laughter are universally accepted; however, not all types of humor are treated equally, leaving room for interpretation of what is considered funny. Early theories focused on the negative aspects of humor, but the development of new theories suggest that humor was more complex than initially thought. As the understanding of humor greatly expanded, new theories seek to explain how humor effects humans psychologically, as well as how humor is integrated into our everyday lives. The profession of law enforcement is one of the few occupations that create a unique environment for its employees.…
