What Is The Purpose Of A Midsummer Night's Dream

Improved Essays
My question is what is the purpose of the actors in the play Midsummer Nights Dream. The three main reasons why the actors are in the play are that they tie back to real life, show what true love really is, and to depict a real marriage. The play ties to real life because it shows how couples should be like in real life. The whole play is basically saying that there can be an uneven balance between the four Athenian lovers. This can tie back to real life because some people in or out of marriages may have a thing for another person and that the balance can be between two girls or guys. There could be one girl or guy having to many lovers and another having not nearly as many or none. Because the play is so light-hearted, you don't think there …show more content…
The play shows that true love should never be messed with through something like a magic potion. The fairy Puck had a major role in the play by messing with the humans but then fixing it all again. He is bad behaved and likes to pull pranks on humans like turning Bottoms head into a donkey for the sake of enjoyment. The other fairies are beautiful and they say he is very different from them and crazy looking. The funny humor from Puck can show the fun that kids can have when they are young and that you can still act like a kid if you are older. He is very good-hearted but willing to do cruel tricks. This is kind of like younger kids today. He makes unlucky mistakes like children would do like mistaking Demetrius for Lysander and putting the love potion in his eyes. This makes Lysander love the next person he sees once he awakes and he awakes to see Helena and loves her. When Hermia awakes she is confused and blames Demetrius into killing her sweet love. This is like kids accusing others even if they don't know the real truth. The play within a play showed that couples must always respect each other and the time that they have together because there could be a tragic ending but they just have to work through that even though bad things can happen. The actors in the inner play of the book sort of depicted Hermia, Helena, Lysander and Demetrius. They showed that love can be confusing and that you can't expect someone to love you back even though you may like them a lot. For example, the fact that Helena loved Demetrius but he liked Hermia and not

Love/Sick is a play that contains lovers and dreamers that look into the agony and the happiness that comes with being in love and in relationships. To begin with, the plot of the play was very straightforward and unmissable. It outlined all the effects, good and bad, that comes with being in a relationship as well as depicting all the dilemmas.…

A Midsummer Night’s Dream is in essence a comedy, drawing together many themes with satirical and romantic humor that still attract large audiences today; it therefore can be considered comic not only due to the literary devices Shakespeare uses but because it has filled audiences with mirth for over four hundred years. In the extract Shakespeare carefully hints towards the social constraints which imprison the two 'lovers ' through the juxtaposition of class. The comic effect this produces is pronounced due to both characters not viewing this as a barrier, regardless of the late Tudor dynasty who viewed it with lofty contempt. Furthermore this would 've been highly satirical for the audience for example, 'I…

Puck’s character is integral to the mood of the play and his carefree and jovial nature allows for the audience to also enjoy the play because none of Puck’s practical jokes are harmful or done out of spite. His character allows for the rare use of chaos as a comedic tool rather than a tragic device and it keeps with the dreamy and pleasant tone of the play as a whole. Puck’s practical jokes additionally serve to resolve the lovers’ conflicts by reversing Demetrius’ feelings for Helena and preventing a fight between Demetrius and Lysander, showing how his trickery plays human nature in a positive way. However, Shakespeare still emphasizes how easily A Midsummer Night’s Dream could have ended badly. The mechanicals’ play in Act 5, Pyramus and Thisbe, serves to highlight how chaos created by ill intentions, such as family rivalry, can end in disaster and even death.…

And because of all of this disagreement on love there are several different versions on love, like for instance Egeus’s version of love is by forcing love upon someone, while Hermia’s version of love is by love happening naturally which is also called true love. The feud started when Demetrius dumped Helena for Hermia, even though she was in love with Lysander and could care less about Demetrius, and now Helena follows Demetrius around like a lost puppy. He has told her several times that he no longer cares for her, but she still proceeds to follow. While that was happening, Hermia and Lysander are planning to run away together because Egeus (Hermia’s father) does not allow Hermia to marry Lysander, only Demetrius,…

In A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare, there are two prominent settings with opposing forces that are central to the context of the play. These two different settings explain Shakespeare’s underlying messages and themes that he wanted to convey to his audience. The setting the readers are introduced to first, Athens, is meant to represent the harshness of the real world, while the other main location, the forest, has a more lovable and happier notion. In A Midsummer Night’s Dream, the dissimilarities of the setting enhance the mood and conflicts, represent different ideas and themes, and portray Shakespeare’s personal ideas about how true love can overcome obstacles, especially with the help of imagination and altered minds.…
