Technology in this society is very dominate. Making society very dependent on different technologies. Although at one time Technology was used for research it has since been expanded to help us stay in contact with family and friends, understand other cultures, meet people from around the around the world. It can also be used for economical purposes as well. However the many uses of technology one must look at the effects of technology. Technology can have both a positive and negative effect on ones socially, physically, and mentally.

Specifically when it comes to using a cell phone. A research study by New York surgeon Kenneth Hansraj found that constant checking of Instagram scrolling and text messaging may be hurting our backs. “The study found that when you tilt your head 60 degrees to stare at your phone, you 're putting 60 pounds of pressure on your neck” (Holmes). Previous research has also shown that sitting in front of a computer all day can have a negative effect on our stature or the way we sit or stand. Another physical effect of technology comes in the form of blemishes. The germs that pile up on our phones can come from our hands as well as the different environments that we leave our cell phones (Holmes). We then use our phones very frequently then touch our face which leads to acne or eczema outbreaks (Holmes). One also has to be mindful of the amount of time spent looking at electronic screens. USA Today has reported that “nearly 70 percent American adults say they’ve experienced symptoms of digital eye strain at some point in their lives” (Holmes).
