House On Mango Street Character Analysis

The first character that I chose to create a home page for was Esperanza. She is the main character and narrator throughout The House on Mango Street. I imagined that, if she were to create a website, it would be centered around writing. I started off by adding backgrounds and pictures that corresponded to this theme. For example, the home background is a page of writing that could have possible come from a journal. The My Works page has a typewriter as the background which represents Esperanza’s time spent writing the different pieces of work. The other backgrounds are comprised of different styles of paper that I felt Esperanza would find appealing as a writer. Along with these backgrounds, I also incorporated a picture of books and a picture of a pen in order to further portray Esperanza as a writer. Next I developed Esperanza’s about me page. On this page she only provides vague description about her home because she feels ashamed of her house …show more content…
She was a year or two older than Esperanza and taught helped her experience boys. It was these experiences with boys that made Esperanza realize that she did not want to escape through a man, like Sally did. While Sally did eventually get married towards the end of the book, I created the home page based off Sally before she was married. Esperanza rarely talked to Sally after she left and it was the unmarried Sally that was important in The House on Mango Street. Sally was very beautiful and caught the eye of every boy in the neighborhood. Her dad was deeply religious and often beat her for so much as looking at a boy. He was afraid that she was too beautiful and because of this she would run off with a boy and disgrace the family. Ironically this is exactly what Sally was trying to do. She wanted to find a man to marry as soon as possible so that she could escape her house and her abusive father. I attempted to portray this desperation to marry and escape through Sally’s home
