Simon saw what he thought was the beast, but it was a dead man that was rotting. Simon realized that the littluns and they whole group wouldn’t have a problem anymore because there was no beast in the forest. The beast that Sam and Eric saw was just a dead man that fell from the sky. They didn’t get to see the dead man clearly because it was too dark for them to see anything, so they just assumed that it was a beast. They group had been trying to hunt the beast down, but there was nothing for them to hunt since the beast isn’t real.

“The beast was harmless and horrible; and the news must reach the others as soon as possible.” (147)

He wanted them to know or else the group of boy will be wasting their time on the island hunting for nothing. He wanted to group to feel safe since they thought that there was as evil beast somewhere in the forest that was going to hurt them. The littluns could now sleep after Simon tells them to good news. Simon saw how the beast wasn’t going to do anything to the boys because it was already dead.

“Jack rose from the log that was his throne and sauntered to the edge of the grass.” (150)

Jack was able to get what he wanted when he made his own tribe. Jack had leadership and to show that he was finally a leader, he had a throne for himself. Jack always felt that he was fit to be a leader so when he did he had the members of his tribe to be his servants. The members would act like that Jack was royalty since they did anything he said. This shows how much power Jack has and he could get his tribe members to do anything. Jack believes that being a leader is having people do things for him.

“Who’s clever now? Where are you shelters? What are you going to do about that?’”
