On January 24, 1995, O.J. Simpson was brought to trial. Simpson was charged with the murder of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman. Both bodies were found with repeated injuries that imitated being stabbed with a knife. There were 72 witnesses presented; the majority of them suggested that Simpson had a motive and the opportunity to kill Nicole. The prosecutors were doing an excellent job tying Simpson to both of the murders. After the second prosecution, however, they started losing the battle. Police had found a bloody glove at the scene. The article, “The Trial of Orenthal James Simpson”, states that “The LAPD officer who found a bloody glove outside Kato Kaelin’s bedroom turned out to be a godsend for the defense’s corrupt-police theory.”

A lot of changes to the game appeared in the 1970s and 1980s including the playoff format being revised, each player had their name on the back of their jerseys, many new rules favoring the offense, the kickers were neutralized, there is now a regular season overtime, penalties increases for hits to the head, neck, and face, ref used instant replay, and the playoffs and the schedule was expanded. Also, the NFL expanded into twenty-eight teams with the Buccaneers and the Seahawks being added. Beginning in 1970, the team who won the super bowl was given the Vince Lombardi Trophy, named after the legendary Green Bay coach following his death earlier that same year. The police began to question their first and main suspects, the Ramsey family. “ In June 1998, prosecutors interviewed the Ramseys for 3 days, separately, in videotaped interviews (Ng 354)” and three months later the grand jury convened and reviewed “more than 30,000 pages of reports, and hundreds of pieces of evidence, including the cord and paintbrush that were used to strangle JonBenet (Ng 354).” They had even received testimonies from Mr. Ramsey's oldest children, Melinda Ramsey and John Andrew Ramsey, from his first marriage (The Ramseys; John Bennett Ramsey 1). In October of 1999 Prosecutors stated there wasn’t enough evidence to charge anyone, therefore the case was dismissed (Ng…

OJ Simpson and friend AL Cowlings took police on a 50 mile slow speed car chase down southern California highways on June 17 1994. It was proven that O.J. Simpson had a pair of gloves just like the bloody glove found at the murder scene. When he was asked to try on the glove at trial, the glove mysteriously did not fit. His attorneys noted “If it doesn’t fit, you must acquit”. There are many reasons why this glove might not have fit his hand: weight gain, trickery, or the glove shown in court could have been similar but not the same. The jury saw this as enough evidence to claim his innocence, but the prosecuting attorney could have pursued this in a different way.…

The nation was torn between those who supported the verdict and those who disagreed with it. Of course, members of the Brown and Goldman families opposed the decision; however, many were surprised to hear that even OJ’s close friend and housemate, Kato Kaelin, believed the jury was wrong. In an interview with Barbara Walters on Nightline in 2015, Kaelin expressed that he has always believed that Simpson was guilty of the crimes. Kato explained that on the night of the murders, he had assisted OJ in packing up the limo he took to the airport to catch his plane to Chicago. Kaelin…

My poem also uses repetition of the question, “How could OJ be guilty”? This question was crafted after the villanelle style of repeating a line in the poem. The question was repeated in order to convey the misgivings that the members of the public felt during the time of the trial and to show the bias that people had towards OJ because of his celebrity status. This question also shows the lack of concern many people had for Nicole and Ron due to their main focus on OJ. At the time, it seemed that OJ became more of a victim instead of the murder victims and most people focused on whether or not OJ was guilty.…

The ‘trial of the century’ changed many Americans’ views on race. While race is the most notable impact and influence associated with the Simpson trial, the highly popularized case brought more transformations than creating a major race controversy. The trials multi-faceted ideas and themes, including media coverage, criminology, views on justice, and domestic abuse, impacted American culture as well. The O.J. Simpson trial had a long-term impact that went further than racial tensions to ultimately change the media, change perception of the justice system, promote better job performance, and to raise awareness of domestic abuse.…

Ben Pollizi Mrs. Kimmich English 10 Advanced 15 April 2017 Sacco and Vanzetti Shortly after World War 1, the United States was soon gripped with a massive fear of communists, foreigners, and anything that wasn’t American. This fear was taken out on anyone who was in America that wasn’t American. One key example of this was the lives of Sacco and Vanzetti. These two men moved to America before World War 1 had begun. Due to the fact that Sacco and Vanzetti were both Italian immigrants, and were convicted of their crime during a time of massive hatred toward foreigners, the justice system disregarded all the reasonable doubt in their case and declared them guilty.…

Over the course of the years, many have been wrongfully convicted and accused of crimes they did not commit. The mission of the judicial system is to prove your guilt and if they can successfully do so beyond a reasonable doubt, then you will be convicted of that crime. Everyone walks into the court innocent until proven guilty, but unfortunately some proven guilty people are still very much innocent. In one case where this so happened to be true was during the case of Brenton Butler. Brenton Butler was accused of allegedly robbing and murdering an elderly woman at a nearby hotel in his hometown Jacksonville, Florida.…

Many of the normal legal proceedings that occur at the crime scene of a murder were bypassed or poorly managed. The apprehension of O.J. Simpson did not occur in a standard that the Los Angeles Police Department abides by. Despite all the mishandlement of this case, the main reason why O.J. Simpson was acquitted of murder is because of the factor that race played in the entire…
