What Is The Number One Prerequisite For An Effective Principal

An effective principal must not only be able to develop relationships, work collaboratively with employees and staff, manage the financial aspects of the school, and have a thorough knowledge of the curriculum, but an effective principal must be able to do all that and more. Impeccable time management skills are, I would say is the number one prerequisite for an effective principal. Time management includes but is not limited to; setting goals, prioritizing, managing interruptions, and scheduling all of which must happen daily. The questions on the time management assessment required a great deal of thought. When you know where you're going, you can then figure out what exactly needs to be done, and in what order. Therefore, managing time effectively requires goal setting. As an administrator, you are faced with many tasks therefore having the ability to prioritize tasks. If as an administrator you lack this trait you work hard but fail to achieve the desired results because your focus is in the wrong area. I scored a twenty two out of thirty in this area, this is an area of need. Managing interruptions, this was my weakest area scoring only nine out of twenty. This is most difficult part of time management because as an administrator or in my current position you are faced with situations and emergencies that can quickly become a topic priority. And, you want to foster the relationships and be seen as an approachable, available administrator therefore you cannot sit behind closed doors all day. I find myself delaying task at school and taking things home so I can help those that come to me. I scored a five out of five in the area of procrastination, I am not one to put things off which for me involves scheduling.
