School is one of the most critical and basic tenets of modern society. Here, people develop social skills, character, talent, purpose, and relationships. Public education is so important because it provides everyone with a basic understanding of the world and the tools to conquer it. However, although education is what allows the civilized world to keep running, it is often found neglected. This is what I’ll be exploring in my senior project. What prevents and what allows schools to function properly and I’ll present some options on how to make school a better place to spend most of your life for both students and faculty.

Negative effects of school on students?
Because schools are a social environment and because conflict is inherent in social interaction, many students face problems stemming from this fact. Students have to deal with bullying, stress, anxiety, depression, peer pressure, and other conflicts arising from an environment which, although for the better, forces people to interact with each other, at a stage where they are known to be impressionable and emotionally unstable (not to mention known to make terrible choices). All this stress accumulates and, if not dealt with, can eventually lead to a staggering amount of psychological and behavioral problems. Problems such as: Restlessness, lack of motivation or focus, irritability or anger, overeating or undereating, angry outbursts, substance abuse, social withdrawal. All of which very evidently result in a decline in academic performance. These problems also affect students outside of school, causing suffering and a feeling of being
