World War I, spanning from the 28th July 1914 to 11th November 1918, was one of the biggest international conflicts ever fought between two sides. Also known as The Great War, the First World War involved the pitting of two alliances made up of many worldwide nations: The Central Powers, consisting of Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Turkey, and the Allied Forces, made up of France, Great Britain, Russia, Italy, and several others. Over the span of four years, this war caused not only some of the most devastating impacts in human history, as it resulted in large amounts of destruction, horrific massacres, and over sixteen million lives lost, but was also one of the most significant turning-points of the twentieth Century.
