In his essay, “Why Competition?” Alfie Kohn claims that competition will always be an unhealthy human behavior as it diminishes any “real human community.” Kohn believes that when one competes to be the “best,” they are never truly satisfied because there is always someone who has done better, but he ignores the fact that without some form of competition, humanity as a whole would not be where it is today. It is competition that propels people into new ages and forces them to adapt in order to evolve.…

However, the countless hours of toilsome preparation and tedious repetition is what makes the triumph so rewarding. A gratuitous conquest is not a win that one can be proud of. Without the work that precedes the climactic moment, winning means nothing. Besides winning, competition entails motivation to strive for self-improvement, a healthy building of character, and a purpose that helps one realize what gifts and talents one possesses.…

Basketball is my favorite sport, not that I know how to play very well. It consist of at least 5 starting players but you’re going to need about 10 more for the bench to replace your starting 5 when they get tired. Your starting 5 consist of your point guard(P.G), shooting guard(S.G.), small forward (S.F.), power forward (P.F.), and center (C). When you are playing against another team you play for 4 quarters, in the NBA they play 12min a quarter. You can shoot 2pointers or 3 pointers.…

There is a problem that has plagued the nations of the world, including the American Public for an exceedingly long time, since before the handheld mobile phone being tapped by the government, since before the unrest in the middle east, since before the people were aware we were melting the ice caps. I’m not talking about the laws of war, I am talking about a much larger battlefield, one upheld in the minds & hearts of gentlemen as well as ladies who duel to uphold their honor along with their pride. I am talking about the green fields, sandy dunes, calm lakes, the grassy hills, and the tree roots of the battlefield upon which people defend their honor in times of peace, where challenges are civil. I continue to talk about the golf course.…
