What Is The Moral Lesson Of The Minister's Black Veil

The Minister's Black Veil was a critique of society and human nature, to be specific it was a critique of the puritan society. The lesson and moral Hawthorne was trying to teach us the readers throughout the story is a really important lesson every human being should learn, the minister was named the reverend Mr. Hooper, he was a loved minister across the town, all of a sudden he began to wear a black veil that covers his face, and since he lived between puritans, the town gossiped about that mysterious black veil, he always refused to tell the ones who asked, why he was wearing it, yet most people didn't even bother to ask but instead they started making up reasons such as that he has a secret sin or that he is a murder and spread it around like it was true, until the townspeople began to think less of his character because of it. at the end, he dies without anyone knowing why he wore that black veil. …show more content…
Hooper wanted to teach the townspeople. The lesson was that nobody is perfect and every single one of us had done a sin in their life that they hide from others so they don't get judged and bothered because of it, the black veil was simply a physical representation of hiding that sin, the way people reacted to the minister black veil is hypocritical because they all know that he is trying to hide something and at the same time they all have sins that they hide themselves, yet they start judging him and try to expose him even though they don't know what he is really hiding, but that's how the humans are.
