King uses elements of magical realism numerous times, but is mostly expressed through the pet sematary, during the resurrections of pets and loved ones. After a loved one dies, the mistake of burrying them in the pet cemetary occurs, because the pet cemetery was built on an Indian burrial ground, the dead is then resurrected. “Magical realist fiction depicts the real world for people whose reality is different from ours” (Rogers). Magical realism is used throughout Pet Sematary and shows how King expresses his personal feelings of loss, which is why he uses a cemetary that provides the ability to bring loved ones back to life. “Almost every detail here found its way into King’s novel—even Smucky and the makeshift grave marker” (Geoia). King has taken many major events throughout his life and has placed them into Pet Sematary with a magical realism twist.
