"You have to learn the rules of the game. And then you have to play better than anyone else" (qtd. in Nikolov). Exactly the key of success is to know the rules and be the best player. For me I 'm Egyptian and everything is different here. Taking English in America plus not being my native tongue was a great challenge. I spent my childhood in a British school in Egypt so, English wasn 't that strange to conquer. In my school I studied novels, dramas, and poems. I took a lot of vocabulary and grammar classes as well. Then I transferred to the Art college. Since the study in the Art college was all in Arabic. Therefore I haven 't used English for almost six years. After that I travelled to the United States in July 2013. Then I decided to take an English class as a trial so that I can touch the educational system in the United States. Firstly, I took the placement test. I didn 't pass the First …show more content…
I did my best in the take home essays because I was sure I couldn 't do a good writing in class. Because of the factors of time, stress, and panic my two in class essay was horrible. In the class essays I should have to work a 15 minutes brainstorming and a 45 minutes writing. In my normal conditions I spend more than eight hours brainstorming and a whole day writing. So imagine the miserable result. It was without a doubt disastrous. The miracle is I got C- in my first impromptu which I think I didn 't deserve. I think you considered working under pressure that 's why you gave me this grade. What I didn 't like in my essay is that I wasn 't able to organize my time. I spent a lot of time thinking and searching which put me under more pressure. As a result, I had no time for revision. I didn 't cite one of my sources, and I had many grammar mistakes as well. There was a repetition of ideas within my essay as well; but, the good thing was being a good trial for the second

The Final Test I passed the final test, but they didn’t. It all started with my class, called the “9ers”. We were the first class to ever have their whole grade graduate on the same day. We were the smartest of them all, is what the counselor told us. All we had to do was pass the final test to figure out who were leaving to go to the new community.…

Goals are something that I have always thought about in my life. Whether it be graduating high school, passing a test, or going to college. Back then I had a lot of simple goals that were easy to accomplish, but now it’s time to start making those goals much bigger. As for my first goal I would like to graduate college with no complications. To do this I will have to always stay on task, turn work in when it is due, and taking care of things before it’s too late.…

Writing has changed my perspective on various aspects of my life. Some of the essays that I have written in the past have opened doors to new ideas. These essays have helped me make connections I feel I never would have made without writing. I believe this is because I enter my deepest level of concentration when I write. This heightened level of concentration I reach when writing has allowed me to reflect on important areas in my life such as self-awareness and motivation.…

Learning to write When I attended elementary school, part of the curriculum was penmanship. There was a certain segment of instruction dedicated to penmanship rather than writing. We were given large sheets of oat colored paper with three parallel lines widely spaced. The alphabets were used to print and write in cursive using the midpoint, and upper lines for capital letters. The handwriting grades were based on neatness and readability.…

When it comes to understanding yourself and your personality on a deeper level than normally, you must take personal stories into perspective that have shaped your life while growing up. According to McAdams, “defining oneself through a personal story is an act of psychological and social responsibility” (Engler 2009). Psychological and social responsibility relate to how you act onto actions around you and how you tie society into your viewpoint of the world. In other words, explaining yourself through a story can show several things such as how your emotions played an affect, the type of response you displayed to something that happened, and as well as the lessons you learned through a personal but also social aspect. In addition, McAdams…

Viewing the past four essays shows the progress and decline of my writing style, and structure. The four essays that were required by the class varied from the best to the worst, both having their similarities and differences. Choosing two out of the four essays, I came to a conclusion that the “process analysis” essay was the best, and the worst essay was the “descriptive” essay. Although it varied from their definitions and structure, the essay’s showed how much the writer, put their work into it. The certain characteristics that made it the worst to the best defined how well the essay would turn out to be.…

Society has set a standard for high school graduates to complete their education through attendance of a university. Personally I aimed to fulfill that standard by attending the second largest university in the state. When applying to the University of Central Florida, applicants were given the opportunity to prove to the reader that they are a respectable, independent, and well-rounded student in around 500 words or less. Which, because there is so much to talk about yet we are restricted by the limited word count, can be a strain for some students. I was determined to make the most out of my opportunity and deliver the best essay to the University.…

Introduction Have you ever wondered what your greatest strengths were and how you could use those to help you advance in your career? Many people probably think they have certain personality strengths until they take an assessment to see what they actually are. I recently took a personality assessment utilizing the DISC method of scoring to see what my more dominant personality traits were. The results came back a little different than what I thought of myself at first but the more I pondered on it, the more it made sense. My three most dominant personality traits are Conscientious, Dominant and Steadiness.…

A further amazing witnessing, despite their daily compulsive use of certain substances, participants dismissed any conceptions of having a drug addiction. When asked to explain, I received similar responses, “I can stop whenever I want to” and “I can survive without drugs, thus I’m not addicted.” I further examined participants by adjuring them to reflect back on their lives since they began abusing drugs and specify any drastic alterations in their personality and overall behavior, and this time around the results were interestingly varied. One participant, Ike, claimed drugs had nothing to do with any changes in his behavior and personality by stating “My personality has changed but I don’t think its because of my drug use, I think its just a result of growing up.” While another participant, Key, proclaimed, “I’ve become more of a risk taker.…

Have you ever pondered the idea of existing solely for yourself? We exist in life individually, but when we share our stories with others we create the possibility of someone else being able to relate. In a way, sharing my personal journey statement can bring me together with others who see the same vision as myself. I know this isn’t the kind of story you’d expect to hear, but I can guarantee you this is a story that needs to be heard. My journey of self-development has taken scale on a variety of experiences.…
