Equality and justice have run hand in hand with many trials from the early 1900's. It is marvelous that we have changed so much since then. At least we have made everything equal as humanly possible. The book that will be used in this article was written in the 1960's. Published on July 11th, Harper Lee's only book to be published while she was alive, was a hit. Everyone adored her marvelous work. To Kill a Mockingbird has been made into a movie, sold more than 30 million copies, and has been translated into more than 40 languages. In To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, the justice system in Maycomb County is bias from racism.

Some people get their true colors shown. Mayella Ewell, the victim, and Bob Ewell, Mayella's father, speak about what happened. Atticus works his magic. '"He blacked your left eye with his right fist?" "I ducked and it-it glanced, that's what it did. I ducked and it glanced off." Mayella had finally seen the light. "You're becoming suddenly clear at this point. A while ago you couldn't remember too well, could you?"' (187) Stuttering and sounding like you just pieced together what happened. Hmmm... very convincing. Sworn to tell the truth and dead out lying. Everyone in the room could tell. Justice not served. Speaking of the room, colored people had to sit up in the balconies. Only whites could sit in the main sections. Back to the trial, before Mayella's testimony, her father had told everyone what had happened in his view. Here, Atticus made it sound like Bob beat Mayella. '"What's so intrestin'?" he asked. "You're left handed, Mr. Ewell," said Judge Taylor.' (177) He's left handed, Mayella was beat on the right side of her face... Seems more plausible than Tom using his crippled left arm to beat her. Yep.
