Robbie is the main influence of this book. Robbie was always with the Tallis family and his mother was their servent. If Robbie had not have been in this novel, none of these characters would have suffered. Cecilia wouldve married a good man, Lola would have put away Danny Hardman and Briony would have continued her life as a writter. While this is true, things could have happened that way if Briony had just not let her imagination run wild. Part of the novel was about his time in the war; “[Cecilia] was waiting, yes, but then what? He tried to make her voice say the words, but it was his own he heard, just below the tread of his heart. Early in the book, she is the first one introduced and the first to show herside of the story. This lets the reader know she is an important and vital character and throughout the book she remains in that role of being the center of focus. As the story progresses, the reader learns the book we have been reading was all written by Briony herself ans the ending with Celilia and Robbie was fake; “So… My sister and Robbie were never able to have the time together they both so longed for, and deserved.” Not only was her actions the cause of their seperation, she choose writing this book, her final book, to be some sort of “Atonement” for what she has done to them.
