Dear President Rutherford B. Hayes and Congress, What if I told you that your actions today can heavily impact the lives of your progeny 136 years from now? I am writing to you from the year 2016, to inform you about the dangers future generations face due to your actions. Although, it may be the zenith of the Industrial Revolution, the proliferation of the burning of fossil fuels, has risen the Earth’s temperature by 1.7 degrees due to the amount of carbon dioxide being released into the air. We as humans are adapting to these changes, but for other species, it’s hard to do so. According to “The Extinction Crisis,” written by the Center for Biological Diversity, they mention that extinction of species normally happens to one to five species a year. However, in our day of age, dozens of species are going extinct every day. In 2050, it is expected that 30%-50% of species would be extinct. As this rate of change increases, it is going to be the downfall of every species in the planet. Today, in the United States alone, there are 14,000 to 35,000 endangered species. Moreover, in the past 500 years, there have been 1,000 species that have gone extinct. In my Advanced Placement Biology class, we learned the importance of biodiversity. Not sure whether or not you know what this means, but biodiversity is the variation of species within ecosystems. This is important because each species plays an important role in an environment to withstand stress. If one species were to go extinct, it just doesn’t affect them, it affects all of us, no matter how big or small of a role they played. Biodiversity offers stability in the world and if we are the only occupants on Earth, we will all eventually die off because of the fact that we all rely on

Alejandro Vieyra Mr. Moody English 4 5 December 2016 Climate Change Must Stop Climate change is the changing of weather patterns in regions all around the world. The primary cause of climate change is the appreciable amount of fossil fuel emissions that humans are sending into the atmosphere. These emissions consist of carbon dioxide that ultimately retain more heat in our atmosphere than needed, thus elevating the temperature everywhere around the globe and damaging ecosystems greatly. Many people, including politicians and scientists, believe that climate change is simply a hoax. Although some prefer to believe that climate change is fake and we have nothing to worry about, there are concrete facts that prove these individuals wrong.…

Help! Our Planet is in Danger “Beyond Petroleum” was once the slogan of the big oil giant BP, before the company decided to pull the plug on its decades of R&D work on alternative energy. The organization had promised to spend a major portion of its investments on its energy efficiency and renewable energy research programs, but later, the company defaulted much of its capital on various ways to extract fossil fuels. When big oil companies like BP, Exxon Mobil and Chevron put their financial interests ahead of their responsibility towards the environment, our planet is endangered. Global warming, one of the major concerns for the world leaders today is a direct result of our dependence on non-renewable fossil fuels.…

They rest firmly within the ethical and philosophical questions and difficulties that arise while searching for solutions. While there are reasons for optimism about the future of our species, there are far more reasons for pessimism. In this paper, my objective is to explain why I am, ultimately, very pessimistic about what the future holds for mankind on this planet.…

The subject of climate change has been hotly debated over the past decade. It is now obvious that the climate is changing and that it is more than likely going to cause problems in the future. The amount of carbon dioxide being released into the atmosphere has considerably increased since the Industrial Revolution. As fossil fuels such as coal, natural gas, and crude oil are burned, carbon dioxide is discharged into the atmosphere where it is trapped. This is called the greenhouse effect and although essential to the survival of all life on Earth, this process has gotten out of hand recently.…
