We as humans are adapting to these changes, but for other species, it’s hard to do so. According to “The Extinction Crisis,” written by the Center for Biological Diversity, they mention that extinction of species normally happens to one to five species a year. However, in our day of age, dozens of species are going extinct every day. In 2050, it is expected that 30%-50% of species would be extinct. As this rate of change increases, it is going to be the downfall of every species in the planet. Today, in the United States alone, there are 14,000 to 35,000 endangered species. Moreover, in the past 500 years, there have been 1,000 species that have gone extinct. In my Advanced Placement Biology class, we learned the importance of biodiversity. Not sure whether or not you know what this means, but biodiversity is the variation of species within ecosystems. This is important because each species plays an important role in an environment to withstand stress. If one species were to go extinct, it just doesn’t affect them, it affects all of us, no matter how big or small of a role they played. Biodiversity offers stability in the world and if we are the only occupants on Earth, we will all eventually die off because of the fact that we all rely on
