I have clear knowledge about the setting where I work and its policies and procedures; I know my role, my duties, rights and responsibilities and I do my best every day.

I have carefully read the national curriculum and I guide my practice by it when I have to support lesson planning, doing and evaluating and to support numeracy and literacy, ITC, etc. I have studied a degree and a master before, so I have the knowledge to support all those areas of the curriculum; although I know I may have slight boundaries due to speak English as a second language (my ability of making and identifying some phonics sounds is not as good as that of a person who speaks English as first language, for example.)

I am aware of safeguarding policies and procedures as well as the ones for recording and reporting incidents or concerns, I understand and believe in the importance of keeping children safe and I have always done my best to do so. I am aware of regulations and indications of how to safely use school materials.

I know about the benefits of team-work and how it is essential on some cases (such as school work and ensuring safety for children and young people.) As I have said before, I am respectful to other people (as I believe on respect as a necessary first step to human relationships) and I know how to value other people’s job; also I like to express my opinion and contribute on a positive manner.

Since then I have been working with children on different sites and with diverse roles but playing has always been a really important part of it. The Effects of the Lack of Play on Learning: The first few years are the most crucial for brain development and research has shown that stimulating play and learning experiences for children help to build connections in the brain called neural pathways which are essential for cognitive development. Lack of these opportunities restricts the development of these pathways, slowing down or delaying learning in the short term and affecting a child’s chances in the long term. Play is one of the main ways in which children interact with one another and form relationships. Lack of social interaction can lead to a child not being able to learn how to co-operate, develop confidence as well as problem solving and thinking skills.…

Social Work with Groups course is giving me more insight to the other courses that I have taken previously and some of those that I am currently rolled in such as Social Work with Families and Community Development. After reading the textbook and the discussions in class, the theories of group counseling, viewing groups through multicultural lens, leadership qualities and functions, co-facilitator and group development stood out for me and broaden my perception into Social Work as a profession. The first thing that caught my attention this time is that, theories of counseling are also applicable to group counseling. I learned about the theories in my social work practice class last year. This show how important the theories are to me as an emerging social worker.…

Whether you are a part of a social group or on a group project for school or work everyone has the want and need to be included, when group members don’t feel like they have fully been accepted in to the group they can become withdrawn and anti-social which would lead them to not be a contributing part of the team. Having a diverse group of people on a team can help a team more effectively and efficiently reach their common goal. If everyone on the team had the exact same life experiences, was the same age and the same culture they more than likely would have the same general way to approach the group’s common goal. Having diversity on the team can help generate more ideas because everyone’s life experiences and cultural differences have helped form the way they think and the way that they solve problems. Roles, needs and diversity affect a group’s teamwork immensely because if members aren’t performing their specific goal and only focusing on a self-centered role the groups work will either multiply for the other members of the group or the group’s common goal might not be met.…
