In China, about in my fourth grade in elementary school, English became a required course, and it is as important as Chinese and Math lessons. Because during that time, the United States, Britain and other countries that English is their mother tongue, become the top world 's strongest countries, and that making English become the world 's common language. Before the government started to let students have to learn English, we only had about two mandatory lessons, which were Chinese courses and Math courses. I usually will get A or A- on both of them, as well as other elective courses. So that means I had very high GPA when I was in the primary school, and I felt so proud of that, even though the classes were easy during that time, but that was all before I got the D or F in the English course. During that time, no matter how hard I tried, still I could not get a better result. All the letters and words seemed not to like me, so I just could not learn it well. For example, according to what my parents said, when someone was willing to teach me about how to read English vocabularies, I always felt very funny about the pronunciation, then laughing about it at the whole time. My parents said it just looked like I did not want to learn and read the English. This showed I do not like English or I felt that it is a difficulty, then I could not have a good grade in the English course. Therefore, I got a lower GPA compare to the perfect GPA at the beginning, which did not start English class in my elementary school. So that is why English made me felt the failure at that …show more content…
Due to the United States become the top world’s country and that much of America drama I saw, I start to learn English better and knowing how important it is. Moreover, the attitude changes about what I feel about English, and that changed my world. The major change of my world or my future is that I came to the United States for my undergraduate now, and that makes a huge difference if I stay in China and do not study English. If I did not change my attitude about English, I could not achieve what I have today, and that also made English become the daily language that I use all the

I did what I considered good enough. Meaning, I passed with a C. Somehow, I managed to trick my parents into believing I was good in math. I never wanted them to know I couldn’t even solve a basic subtraction problem, so I kept lying about my grades. It was extremely hard for me to keep up the act, but I was totally convinced there was nothing I could do. I wasn’t good at math when I was younger, how could I be good at it now?…

Yes, I was born in China, but I’m fluent in English. It’s very painful for me when people calls me a FOB because I’m not.” Then I figured that FOB can go from positive to negative meaning depending on how and when people use it. On the other hand, my uncles, aunts, and cousins use FOB as a family joke. FOB only refers to the young age like my sister because she moved to America when she was 4 and the first thing she learn in school is English, so she can’t write any Chinese characters and speak in fluent…

As a student, I have always asked myself the same question in every grade, “Why does my English suck?” In school, I was the student that would just get by with C’s and barely grasp the concepts that I’ve been taught. I could not understand why I wasn’t good in English, but it was my first language. Then I realized that I wasn’t great in English because I disliked reading, and that was one significant way of learning it. Eventually, I found myself in a classroom full of students who can barely speak and write English and I felt bitter. By the time I entered the third grade I knew I had a displeasure of reading.…

My first two years of high school had me convinced that I just sucked at writing. Then I determined that it was OK to suck during those two years because most of my english class time was composed of analyzing literature and taking comprehensive tests on them. Is it a little sad that grammar comprehension was only used as a punishment in my freshman english class? I’ve only heard of “Gerunds”(if that’s how you spell it) and I still don’t know what it is. What’s even more saddening but also enlightening is the fact that only half of what i was taught in high school english was applicable to my college english class.…

Ever since I can remember I have hated writing. Specifically, my hatred towards writing began my second year of high school when I decided to take English honors. The reason why I took English honors was because I knew it would benefit my GPA by giving me an extra point that would pump it up. My reading comprehension skills were good so I thought that by changing from a regular English class into English honors would be a piece of cake so I took a test to see if I had the qualifications to be in that class and I passed, but to my surprise the class was not that easy as I thought it would have been. Moreover, prior to my honors class in sophomore year my freshman English class was more about grammar so we never wrote essays that would prepare us for future writing classes because it was assumed we knew how to write one already, but when I got to English honors writing essays is all we did.…

To put it frank it was a good feeling and amusing when I passed math every year in high school because I really didn’t pay too much attention or even focus as much as I should have at certain times, since I wanted to be stubborn and ignorant. There were times where I would just decide I didn’t want to learn the lessons because they were either being taught difficultly, lack of total interest and or it didn’t seem to be useful in my life for what I planned on doing. Looking back now I can admit I was wrong for having that kind of mind set which I will be going more into depth in another paragraph about the usefulness of math. It was also during that time that I was able to identify my strengths and weaknesses. For instance, one of my biggest weaknesses is my comprehension but thanks to tutoring and hard work I was able to improve myself to the point where I know what needs to be done to make sure I completely understand the problem and what it is asking.…
