Brown as well as some members of the Beaumont, South Carolina school district, he started becoming more adventurous. He organized several field trips such as going to Washington D.C. and many other small trips around Yamekraw Island. He wanted to take his students on these field trips because many of them have never went anywhere outside of Yamekraw Island. As a result, there were many things in common American culture that they had no idea about. For example, they didn’t even know that we live in the United States of America when Mr. Conroy first arrived! Eventually the school board became increasingly involved because of a record of habitual tardiness in arriving to the school. When trying to deal with his attendance record, the school board has also noticed that he technically did not have approval from a member of the school board to attend the Washington D.C. field trip.
Essentially, the school board was finding more and stronger reasons to terminate Mr. Conroy from his position at Yamekraw Island. Eventually, after some of the students graduated from the school, he invited everyone in attendance to a graduation party at his house in order to celebrate the accomplishments of his students. It was at this party where he learned that the school board determined that it was necessary to fire him from his position for the coming school
