I slide on my stretchy black track pants, a comfortable loose fitting shirt or hoodie, and place my things in my backpack, including an extra pair of lightweight gym shoes and dance shoes (jazz or ballet). Attire is one the most important parts of taking a dance class; similar to police officers, each item of clothing proves to be vital for the completion of the tasks at hand. Dance is a physical activity with many rules and guidelines, it is essential or the instructor to see the anatomy of your body for corrections to reduce the probability of injury. While driving to school, I am mentally visualizing the stretches and combinations step by step. Practically like an outer body experience, you can visually see yourself in third person moving through each step, remember your head placement and which muscles are engaged at that moment of rehearsal. You can hear some students saying “woo I need that” or “man I wish I could be more flexible.” Others stay on the floor and continue to stretch or mark through the choreography that we will be reviewing after the break.
