In the critical thinking assignment, I evaluate a scenario where a patient’s condition was stable at the start of the shift, but quickly deteriorated resulting in respiratory distress and ultimately, cardiac arrest. I describe the step by step approach to assess the patient's condition, initiate a rapid response, and assume the role of team leader to effectively manage the resuscitative effort. Using the nursing process I provide a critical analysis of how critical thinking and effective leadership skills are put into action at the bedside to provide high-quality, evidence-based nursing care.
