Personal Reflection On Being A Stressful As A Group

About half way through the activity I had a simple realization, that this activity wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. Being one of the last inquiry cores to do this benchmarking activity, I had heard stories from other people that the activity would be very stressful as there would be power struggles and poor time management. However, during that moment of realization, everyone in my group knew what they were doing and was comfortable doing it so it was quite the opposite of stressful. I started to wonder why we were working so well together, despite the amount of work shoved at us, expected to be finished in a short time frame. I came to the conclusion that one of the things we did very well was communicate with each other. I’m a big …show more content…
In general, I find myself in the “secretary role” which includes: following the instructions, organizing information as well as delegating people. I enjoy collecting and organizing information, which came into handy today when we were researching. As well, delegating people is a skill that I am particularly proud of as I find that by figuring out people’s strengths and delegating tasks based on those, you can produce a better result. Today that turned out well: a few our group members were more comfortable in writing so we tasked them with that while the rest of us did more …show more content…
Exposure to different group work opportunities will allow me to isolate those weaknesses. Another method that I think will help me is if I make a personal goal at the beginning of each group work session and keep that at the back of my mind as I do the activity. It doesn’t have to be a big goal, it could be something as small as volunteering to write a particular section that I may not be so comfortable with. In the end, I know that the personal goal will have stretched my comfort zone and from there, even if I fail, I can learn and grow from that

It usually goes well when a very clear instruction is given to each person. I like to have the event well planned, detailing what each person will be doing, with whom and what is expected of them. I give a copy to each person or group and usually give a time schedule so they will achieve the desired outcome as per the plan. Occasionally things have gone wrong and it can be attributed to those who fail to follow the clear instructions. I always ask now for everyone to read the paperwork and plan and to ask questions if there is anything which they don't understand.…

Three years ago I started a position where I became the local leading member of a projects team. Upper management was at corporate two hours away and I was left in charge of local operations regarding quality projects in two factories. At first, I acted primarily as a supervisor for the group. I would watch and help other team members, but after about a year I moved into a quasi-manger role. Since then, I receive the tasks that need to be completed from upper management and delegate the tasks accordingly based on each member’s strengths and weaknesses.…

First of all, I would like to state that I am honored to be given the opportunity to become a member of National Honor Society. Receiving the letter letting me know that I am eligible to apply has been my goal ever since I entered high school. NHS does such an amazing job at helping the community, and that is all I have ever wanted to do - help others. Generally speaking, I am more of a behind-the-scenes person. However, taking charge, when necessary, is something I enjoy doing.…

For me the activity of working as a group especially with other individuals who I have not worked with or talked to before was a good learning experience that had both positive and negative outcomes using Driscoll’s model of reflection as a frame work to elaborate on how I interpreted what happened, what impact the situation had on me and what I will do in the future if presented with a similar situation (Driscoll and Teh, 2001). We were required to do a 10 minute presentation for a health promotion project that we developed. I decided to work with other individuals who I didn’t know and have not worked with before as I believed I would be more productive and respectful if I worked with people I didn’t know very well. For the first tutorial…

Those are the leadership roles that had a title. Informally, whenever I am in a group, I like to think of myself as a leader. I like to know the agenda in which the project will be executed, and also put input of various ways to improve the project. I am not one to watch the work be done by others. After the many experiences of being a leader I have learned to be open to other’s ideas because they may have a different viewpoint of the project which may be a better viewpoint than my…

Ever since I came to Whiting High School as a freshman, I’ve been looking forward to the chance of being a member of the National Honor Society. It’s always been known to me that I have to work hard in order to reach the benefits of life, and this is one of those rewards. Receiving the letter of my eligibility made my day, and I anticipate for all that the potential future could hold for me with this opportunity. In my eighth grade year, I was part of my school’s student council, which is a very fond memory that I miss. And now with the opportunity to become an actual member of the NHS, I hope to positively relive similar experiences, along with making many new ones for our school.…

When doing group work, I am almost always in charge. For example, I am the leader of my homecoming project group in my marketing class. I am also the leader/captain of my team for the ProStart Culinary Competition that I have participated in junior and senior year. I would also like to believe that I am someone people can look up to.…

Every person has different strategies when it comes to learning and working either alone or collaboratively within a group. I consider myself a doer. I take pride in diving straight into the workload and scratching something off of my to-do list. Awareness of what is happening, who is getting what done, and the accuracy of all materials being produced within a group is extremely important to me. Because of how motivated I am in a group to complete the task at hand, I am quick to give my ideas and visions for the final product which makes me the usual group leader.…

As a collaborator, my strengths were that I made sure that everything got done on time and that it was done right. My weaknesses were that I didn’t really talk to my group as much as I should have and I kind of didn’t put responsibility on anyone but myself. Group work requires talking to others, otherwise you’ll just pull all of the weight and the other group members will get a free ride. Honestly, I feel comfortable controlling the whole process of group work and have people just follow what I say so I know that things are getting done right. This is probably not good, but I don’t feel like I can trust groups because a lot of the time people don’t do what they’re supposed to.…

    6. If my friend was experiencing a great deal of stress issues, I would suggest a few things to her. First, I would encourage her to reduce the amount of caffeine, sweets, and fried foods she is consuming. These foods and drinks can trigger and aggravate stress, causing her to be more anxious and compounding the problems. Second, I would suggest for her to drink more water, eat a “rainbow of foods,” and attempt to consume some food every four hours.…
