Education has always been extremely important everywhere. In the beginning of time, learning the Bible, for example, or coming up with new inventions and ideas, or memorizing rituals, education has always been around and a necessity for anyone who was able to receive it. However, attending a school or paying a tutor or private teacher costs a lot. Not everyone was able to afford it. Today, in this country and many other places, going to school is part of the law and required until a child graduates from high school. Students are not always going to be so open about their lives and personal problems. Colleges ask for these essays as a requirement, but other than that there is no true importance or value of those essays to colleges. Students have to write about their personal lives, what has happened or what they have done, and not all students are going to be comfortable writing about their life story to a school that may not even accept them or every meet them. The issue with these factors involved in the college acceptance requirements, is that it does not show who the student is. As a person, they may be strong and motivational to others, shows signs of leadership, see the good and want to make a change, or a quiet but powerful person who can complete any goal they set their mind to. The factors that each college looks for in order to accept a student are just tests, hours, numbers, a list of activities completed, and an essay. Nothing truly shows who the person is, only what has been completed, when it was completed, and how. Some students may have excellent grades and perfect scores, but once meeting them, that person can have an awful personality or not want any good from anything. Students will have higher chances of getting accepted in the school, depending on the interview and requirements. The students will be much happier having the opportunity to make their dreams into reality, resulting in better attitudes as well as higher grades. Improvement in academic studies and better rates from students of the school will raise the standards and rating of the college, and new students will gain interest in the school based off of what other students have mentioned and reading about how well they do at the school. Students talking about the school to other friends that may be starting to look for one will help the college gain more people and earn a better and higher reputation. “Students who meet or exceed the threshold for admission are, at selective colleges, evaluated based on all of the attributes they bring to campus, including special talents, academic interests, and personal characteristics” (NACAC).
