Aging is the natural and inevitable phenomenon of life process. Constantly increasing aging population and increasing in life expectancy rate have brought both challenges and opportunities to nations all over the world. Providing quality old age services to an aging population is a challenge to most of the countries and again nations also want to take benefit of the wisdom, knowledge and skills of an aging population. Developing countries like Nepal has minimal policies that address the health and the physical needs of the elderly. My grandparents were not given enough choices and they were not active as well. Before this course, I have stereotype thoughts that older people are less creative than younger people. I used to think old people do not have any interest in art, knitting, sewing, gardening etc due to their age. In contrast to my thoughts, I learned about the importance of creativity in older people through gardening and other physical therapies to improve physical and mental health. I also came to know that creativity and activity is a lifelong process and there is no age limitation for a person to be active. People can be active in many ways. The only thing is the individual should be provided with opportunity and encouragements for participation in those activities. Today, senior citizens from different countries come to Canada for various reasons. They miss their relatives, family, culture, language and tradition from back home. Language is a huge barrier for them to come out of the house. So they stay in home with minimal physical activity which have a negative impact on their aging process.
