What Is The Impact Of The Great Depression On American Life

The Great Depression was “a serve worldwide economic depression” that hit both rich and poor hard. The impact the Great Depression had on American lives was unemployment, hunger, homelessness, and struggling because people didn’t have jobs, no money, or were in debt. First of all, one of the impacts was unemployment because no one has jobs. The unemployment rate had risen to 25% in the United States between 1930 and 1940. Farmers had suffered the most because crop prices had dropped by 60% and they were unable to take any other jobs. There is a photograph of two men walking down a street with suitcases in their hands and in front of them is a sign saying “next time take the train, relax.” The two men are traveling to find work but are unable to take the train because they can’t afford it. Money people were moved into “Hooverville’s” which were shacktowns or homeless encampments during this times. Hooverville’s were named after the president at this time who was Herbert Hoover who wad mainly blamed for the Great Depression happening. There is a photograph of a mother and her two children outside of their “car’ which has flat tires and cloth hanging over it which shows it hasn’t moved for a while judging by the picture. Also they’re people in the background next to their cloth house. Finally, people struggling during the Great Depression all ties together with unemployment, hunger, and homelessness. It all ties together because no one has jobs which caused unemployment and not having a job gives you no money which causes hunger and homelessness.
