People now live in a new era of technology that allows them to communicate and share anything with friends, family, and to the public. This fairly new method of communicating has developed over these past couple years very rapidly, but this does not mean that social media hasn’t been around. “Two important discoveries happened in the last decade of the 1800s: The telephone in 1890 and the radio in 1891. Both technologies are still in use today, although the modern versions are much more sophisticated than their predecessors. Telephone lines and radio signals enabled people to communicate across great distances instantaneously, something that mankind had never experienced before” (Drew). Instead of using radio and telephone lines, what is more commonly used now is the smartphone. The smartphone has it all. A smart phone can allow you to: communicate, take photos, watch videos, and of course allow you access social media. A social media site allows you to create some type of profile to describe who

This also causes students/ teens to get distracted on their homework assignments. If a student has an assignment online they would utilize the resources they have like google but will also sidetrack and check their social media. This can cause the student to “spend too much using Facebook rather than making their assignments or whatsoever” (Effects of Social Networking to Teenagers Research). Social media is not only a distraction but also has mental effects. Social media has the potential to “lower our self-control, which can boost impulse spending and food cravings… make us more open to peer pressure… hurt our self-esteem and make us feel lonely, frustrated and angry when comparing ourselves with others… online chat functions can seriously mess up our perceptions
