Loss of Efficiency The more often Carr and his peers use the internet, they have a harder time focussing on long articles. The ability to read and absorb a two or three page article is a struggle for the majority of people because of the internet. Daily bloggers have completely stopped reading books because of their insufficient amount of concentration. People do not need to store information in their brain anymore, for it can be searched on Google. With many humans searching millions of topics all day, Google and online companies have become financially invested in tricking internet users. These companies want readers to look at as many websites as possible. This increases the amount of information the company knows about a person and will influence the reader’s advertisements that pop on a website. Human dependency on the internet is working to Google’s financial benefit. “The faster we surf the Web- the more clicks we click and pages we view- the more opportunities Google and other companies gain to collect information about us and to feed to advertisements” (Carr 615). Advertisements are personalized based on web pages readers view. Users are tempted to spend money when a person often sees a favorite product as an advertisement
