September 11, 2001 was a date that shocked the nation and had an impact on every American’s life ever since that fateful day. The attack that happened that day on the United States was the most deadly terrorist act on United States soil in history. A group of radical Islam terrorist devised a plan to use American planes as missiles in order to take down buildings that had high importance to the United States. The terrorist attack that happened that day left approximately 3,000 people dead, and around another 6,000 injured. September 11, 2001 was one of the most significant days in Untied States history; it has changed how individuals live their lives today. Four planes were involved, they took off from three different airports along the East Coast (9/11 Attacks). The planes they chose were chosen strategically as well. They were transcontinental flights, so they had 20,000+ gallons of jet fuel on board. This would help cause a larger explosion when they struck the towers. The first plane to have impact was Flight 11, it took off from Boston Logan International Airport, it hit the North Tower (Inside 9/11). It was thought that when it initially hit the World Trade Center that it was a complete accident (9/11 Attacks). There were over 1,300 people stuck above where the impact zone of the plane was. The second plane that hit was Flight 175, it hit at 9:03, striking the South Tower (Inside 9/11). It struck about 18 minutes after the first plane (9/11 Attacks). Once the second one hit it was clear that America was under the attack of terrorists. While the attacks were going on, President Bush was reading to a group of kids at a school. He wasn’t alerted that the country was under attack until 5-7 minutes after it happened. The third plane took off from Washington Dulles in Washington DC (Inside 9/11). The Federal Aviation Administration was warned 52 times about possible attacks from Al Qaeda (inside 9/11). The towers they took down were by no means small, each of them roughly an acre in size (WTC 9/11). When they collapsed the tops of the buildings fell nearly a ¼ of mile to the ground reaching speeds upwards of 120 mph. No one even gave them collapsing a thought, until it happened (Inside 9/11).
