Tobacco is tall plants that was originally grown in Virginia, but is now also grown in big quantities in Turkey, India, and Russia. The leaves of the plant are dried, grinded and rolled into cigars and cigarettes. This plant can also be shredded and smoked through a pipe. Tobacco is native to the Americans, but has been recorded in the Maya culture more than 2000 years ago. This practice of smoking tobacco moved from Central America to the Aztec Empire then to North America, to the Native Tribes. Tobacco has been around for a while, the Arawak Indians smoked tobacco, Christopher Columbus smoked during his voyages in the 1490’s, the Spanish also took tobacco seeds back to the Europeans.
