What Is My Experience Of Having A Child Essay

Superior Essays
Having a child is one of the happiest moments of many people’s lives, getting to encounter this first hand is a very great experience. It was the second week of school and my fiance, Abby and I had been waiting on our son to be born for about eight and a half months. Because Abby still lived in Minot and I live on campus in Bismarck I wanted to know way before hand if she was going to the hospital. During my afternoon class I got a call and because we are not supposed to use our phones in class I couldn’t answer it, but when it stopped vibrating I snuck it out of my pocket as to not draw attention to myself and it was a missed call from Abby. I stood up and walked out of class because I knew that this had to be important. She knew I was in class and that I couldn’t use my phone. I called her back as soon as I got into the hallway …show more content…
After they were done with all the tests they let me hold him for the first time and again all the emotions came flooding in again. I couldn’t believe that after all this time this day was finally here and I finally got to hold him. After some time we spent in there they said that Abby was in her room and that we could take him to her room and I got to take him to her myself. When we got back into the room Abby was laying on the bed waiting anxiously to hold her son for the first time. When I handed him off to her there were no words except a few “hellos” and a lot of crying. She was taught how to breastfeed and I was taught how to change diapers and at the end of the day we had to say our goodbyes and I had to head back to Bismarck and finish out the school week before I could go back home and see them again. Good thing it was a wednesday and I didn’t have to wait long before I could go back to Minot and see Abby and Connor again. By the time I got back they were out of the hospital and we were all back home

From my current placement I have experience of working with a child going through this transition, this had a very big effect on the child holistically. It became obvious to me that the child was very worried and unsettled about this transition as we noticed a negative change in the child's behaviour as he started becoming aggressive to other children and started a tendency to play alone and withdraw himself from the class. There was also a significant decrease in his school work performance as he was very withdrawn and found it difficult to communicate with the other children and sometimes staff. Working within the multi-agency team we introduced this child to an advocate which acted as a professional friend and from this we saw a slight improvement in the child's holistic development and behaviour. When working within the school team, we were part of the multi-agency team who contributed to…

Surrounded by a team of nurses, one doctor, and what seemed to be a grouping of blinding lights, I had a peculiar moment of serenity. I can’t quite explain whether it was the epidural or the fact that for twelve hours my body was engulfed by excruciatingly painful contractions which seemed to be attacking me in a sporadic manner, but in that one moment everything was perfect. Somehow I just let go off every single fear I had, I just remembered that in any moment there would be an extraordinary occurrence. Although a natural part in many women’s lives, since the beginning of time, it was a phenomenon in my life.…

Across cultures and populations, child-raising is considered to be one of the most important aspects of life. The beliefs and values that parents teach in their child’s formative years often determine how children will behave and respond to situations as they grow up.
